Does SecureMailMerge track email opens or clicks?
SecureMailMerge does not track email opens, clicks, or provide campaign analytics. Learn why and what alternatives are available.
No, SecureMailMerge does not track email opens, clicks, or provide campaign analytics. This is by design to protect your recipients’ privacy and keep your emails out of spam folders.
Why we don’t track
Email tracking typically works by embedding invisible tracking pixels or rewriting links to pass through tracking servers. This approach has several downsides:
- Privacy concerns: Tracking pixels collect data about recipients without their knowledge
- Spam filters: Many email security systems flag emails with tracking pixels as potential spam or marketing
- Data processing: Tracking would require sending your campaign data to our servers, which goes against our privacy-first design
SecureMailMerge processes everything on your computer and never sends your campaign data to our servers. This keeps your data private and your emails looking like genuine personal messages rather than marketing campaigns.
Alternatives for tracking
If you need to track engagement, consider these approaches:
- Link shorteners: Services like Bitly or other URL shorteners can track how many times a link is clicked
- UTM parameters: Add UTM parameters to your links to track visits in Google Analytics or similar tools
- Read receipts: You can enable read receipts in SecureMailMerge, though recipients can choose not to send them
Checking sent emails
While we don’t track opens or clicks, you can verify your emails were sent by:
- Checking your Sent Items folder in Outlook where all merged emails appear
- Using Outlook’s built-in delivery receipts to confirm messages were delivered to the recipient’s mail server
