How to install SecureMailMerge in Outlook
Install SecureMailMerge from Microsoft AppSource in a few clicks. You can also install it from inside Outlook, or an IT admin can deploy it to everyone at once.
You need a Microsoft 365 Business or Education mailbox. Installation is free; a paid SecureMailMerge license is optional and removes the promotional footer.
There are three ways to install SecureMailMerge. They all install the same add-in, so pick the one that fits your situation.
Which method should I use?
| Method | Best for | Who does it | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft AppSource store link (recommended) | Most people installing for their own mailbox | You | A few minutes |
| ”Apps” menu inside Outlook | You are already in Outlook, or the store link is blocked | You | A few minutes |
| Centralized deployment | IT admins installing for many users, or users who are not allowed to install add-ins | Microsoft 365 administrator | Up to 24 hours to appear |
If you are not sure, use the store link below.
Install from Microsoft AppSource (recommended)
This is the quickest way to install SecureMailMerge for your own mailbox.
Install SecureMailMerge from Microsoft AppSource →
- Open the store link. Click the button above. It opens the SecureMailMerge page on Microsoft AppSource.
- Click “Get it now”. It is on the SecureMailMerge listing page.
- Sign in with your Microsoft 365 work or school account. Use the same account as the mailbox you send from. Personal Outlook.com or Hotmail accounts are not supported.
- Confirm the prompts. Microsoft asks you to confirm that you want to add the app and to accept its terms. Confirm to continue. If you see “Need Admin Approval” or “Approval Required” instead, your organization requires an administrator to approve the permissions SecureMailMerge needs. See Why am I seeing “Need Admin Approval”?.
- Open Outlook and compose a new email. Click “New Email” (or “New mail” in Outlook on the web), then open the “Apps” menu on the ribbon (or “All Apps” in some versions) and choose SecureMailMerge. In older Outlook versions, it appears on the ribbon or under the add-ins button instead. You can pin it to the ribbon from the “Apps” menu.
It can take a few minutes for the add-in to appear in Outlook after you install it. If it still does not show up, close and reopen Outlook, then see Why is the SecureMailMerge icon not showing?.
Install from the “Apps” menu in Outlook
You can also install SecureMailMerge without leaving Outlook. Use this method if:
- You are already in Outlook and prefer to install from there.
- Your browser or network blocks the AppSource store link.
- The store link did not finish the installation for your mailbox.
Which guide to follow depends on your Outlook version:
- Your Outlook has an “Apps” or “All Apps” button: follow Install using the “Apps” menu. This applies to New Outlook, Outlook on the web and current versions of classic Outlook.
- Your Outlook has a “Get Add-Ins” button instead: follow Install using “Get Add-Ins”. This applies to some older Outlook versions on Windows and Mac, and to Outlook on the web.
Deploy for your organization (IT admins)
Microsoft 365 administrators can deploy SecureMailMerge to many users at once from the Microsoft 365 admin center under “Settings” > “Integrated apps”. This is also called centralized deployment. Use it if:
- You are an IT admin rolling SecureMailMerge out to a team, a group or the entire organization.
- Your organization does not allow users to install add-ins themselves.
- Users see “Need Admin Approval” when they try to install it.
Deployed users do not need to install anything. The add-in appears in their Outlook automatically, which can take up to 24 hours.
Step-by-step instructions: Deploy SecureMailMerge to your organization.
After installing
- Installing does not license the add-in. Every feature works in the free version, which adds a short promotional footer to each email. To remove it, buy and assign a license.
- Ready to send? Prepare and upload your spreadsheet or send to your Outlook contacts, then create, test and send your email.
- Need to remove it? See Uninstall or reinstall SecureMailMerge.
